INNOVATIVE LECTURE PROGRAMME

Dr. Shatendra Sharma, eminent professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University visited our institute on 17th September 14 for delivering a guest lecture to the 2nd year students on ‘Innovative Methods of Research’. Dr. Sharma has worked in various organisations like Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), AICTE, Ministry of Human Resources and Development (MHRD) and has experience of more than 27 years. He is the founder director of a state of the art instrumentation facility at JNU New Delhi and is currently associated with JNU as a professor specializing in X-Ray Physics, Interaction of Radiation with Matter, Design and Development of Instruments, Characterization of Materials, Nano-materials, Solar Cells, IPR etc.

The 2-hour session began at 1 pm. Post the welcome ceremony, Dr. Sharma addressed the students on ‘Innovative Methods of Research’. A veteran in the field of research, he shared his views on new and innovative methods of cutting-edge research. Invoking academic curiosity through probing questions, he then exhorted the eager students to promote new methods to approach research. He dwelt on certain salient points during his talk such as - making research more innovative and informative by posing more and more questions; planning for research and the criticality of studying in detail the reason behind various phenomena occurring in the surroundings; the importance of sharing experiences within the research community and learning from them; the importance of creating self-discipline and determination. The session concluded with the presentation of a memento to the chief guest by the Principal.

The session was extremely useful for the students and helped encourage debate within students about various means of approaching research methodology. The overall talk proved very expedient for the student community.
