ECE-DISCUSSION

The department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organized two sessions of panel discussion on “Women in Engineering Sciences” and “Career Opportunities in Academics and Industry” at Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon on 20th March 2013. The morning session was on “Women in Engineering Sciences” organized for girl students exclusively. The objective was to make them aware of different career opportunities and privileges in academics as well as industry. The eminent speakers Ms. Sujata Sharma, Director NSORO India Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi; Ms. Rashmi Mahajan, Project Manager, Alcatel Lucent, Gurgaon and Ms. Madhuri Yadav, Scientist ‘C’ DRDO, New Delhi shared their views on women empowerment in engineering. Ms. Sujata Sharma discussed the opportunities and challenges in the industry. She advised girls to accept the challenges in technology and prepare accordingly. She also told that honesty and dedication to job is of extreme importance. Ms. Rashmi Mahajan addressed the girls and highlighted a few important things required for getting success in job. Ms. Madhuri Yadav brought out the various opportunities for girls in Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

The theme of second session was “Career Opportunities in Academics and Industry” where in Dr. Mahesh Ambegaonkar, faculty Centre For Applied Research In Electronics (CARE), IIT Delhi; Mr. Manish Tiwari , Chief Engineer Power Grid Corporation, Gurgaon and Mr. Sandeep Ghai, Manager Aon Hewitt shared their valuable experiences and provided relevant inputs related to career opportunities. Delivering a lecture on Overview of Microstrip Antennas, Dr. Mahesh Ambegaonkar discussed the research project opportunities in IITs. Mr. Manish Tiwari talked regarding the avenues available in power grid sector and other Govt organisations. He explained the need of smart grid in power sector. Mr. Sandeep Ghai elaborated various opportunities available in the corporate sectors. He also briefed the students regarding the openings in management and technical fields. Different choices in the education after graduation were also discussed by him.

The concept of panel discussion proved extremely beneficial as  the students in both the sessions could understand the importance of good communication skills, challenges and opportunities available in various sectors.
