WORKSHOP-NPTEL

Four faculty members Dr. Binay Kumar, Assistant Professor (Department of Applied Sciences & Humanities), Ms. Kritika Chaudhry, Assistant Professor (Information Technology Department), Ms. Sarita, Assistant Professor (Computer Science & Engineering Department) and Mr. Lokesh Kumar Assistant Professor (Mechanical Engineering Department) from Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended a one-day Workshop for Mentors on “NPTEL Online Certification Courses” held at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras on March 15th, 2014. The workshop was organized by National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) in association with NASSCOM.

The objective of this workshop was to discuss and provide the details about the online Computer courses with certification and its impact and interaction with NPTEL team with participants across the country.

Inaugurating the workshop Mr. Andrew Thangaraj, NPTEL coordinator and Associate Professor at IIT Madras , shared the outline of “Programming, Data Structures and Algorithms”. He also emphasized on the description of the assignments and assessments to all the faculty mentors of various engineering colleges. He presented a small lecture also on the week 1 and week 2 topics of the course i.e. basic programming constructs. He gave live demonstration of submission of the assignments. Prof. Shankar Balachandran, Associate Professor, IIT Madras enlightened the participants with a demo programming of Week 1 and week 2 course assignments on Dev C++ platforms. He also responded for the various FAQ’s asked by the faculty members.

In the second session of the workshop Prof. Hema A Murthy delivered a talk on topics of Data Structures and Algorithms like Abstract Data types and trees.

The workshop was useful as the mentors learnt how to keep the students focused for the online course through IIT Madras.
