COMPETITIVE LEARNING AND PROGRAMMING

On 28th August 2014, Computer Science and Engineering Department organized a Session on “Competitive Learning and Programming” delivered by the team of CODECHEF from MUMBAI at Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon. The event included an Introduction to Code Chef, Online Judges and advantages of Competitive Programming.

As part of CODECHEF Educational initiative, they give institutes the opportunity to associate with CodeChef in the form of Campus Chapters. Hosting online programming competitions is not the only feature on CodeChef. They can also host a coding contest for institute on CodeChef, organize an algorithm event and be a guest author on blog. CodeChef was created as a platform to help programmers make it big in the world of algorithms; computer programming and programming contests.They also aim to have training sessions and discussions related to algorithms, binary search, technicalities like array size and the likes. Apart from providing a platform for programming competitions.

The session was delivered by Mr.Anup Kalbalia and Mr. Sooraj Sharma (Officers of CODECHEF) who promoted Competitive programming through “CODECHEF”. CodeChef is a non commercial organization operated by Directi, an Indian software company based in Mumbai, India. Mr.Anup Kalbalia (Senior Project lead at CODECHEF) discussed about the ACM-ICPC (Association for Computing Machinery - International Collegiate Programming Contest) which is a multi-tier, team-based, programming competition and encouraged students to participate in the same.

It was followed by a brief discussion on GOOGLE, MICROSOFT, AMAZON and FACEBOOK. He also discussed about “Anudeep Nekkanti” who was placed in Google two months before with his efforts and dedication from a simple college from Andhra Pradesh and motivate students if he can do anyone can compete here to achieve his or her goal in computer programming. The officer showcased about IIIT HYDERABAD, that how it placed its ranking in top colleges with their hard work, awareness and these coding tests. The speaker put his efforts to make the mind of students towards coding and innovation with help of providing sites SPOJ, QUORA.

The motive of this session was to make awareness in students about code programming. Overall the session was very informative as the attendees got an opportunity to update their knowledge in the area of Competitive learning and coding.
