Mr. Amar Saraswat, Assistant Professor from CSE Department of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended a Lecture on Broadband for Sustainable Development on the eve of World Telecommunication And Information Society Day (WTISD) organized by IET Delhi Local Network at India International Centre Annexe, Lodhi Road, New Delhi on May 16th, 2014.

The Guest of Honour was Shri M. Suresh, the Additional Member (Signals), Railway Board, Govt of India. Shri S. C. Mishra was the chief guest Member (Services), Department of Telecommunication, Govt. of India.

Shri N Venkatesan, Chairman, IET - Delhi Local Network & Former Member (Electrical), Railway Board shared his views on the current status of broadband in different areas. The Guest of Honour, Shri M. Suresh delivered his lecture focussing on the achievement of the Railway Board in terms of using the Broadband. He also presented the efforts done by Indian Railways in usage of broadband. He told that 45, 000 connections of optical fibres are being used and 40% of the reservations are done today online through website.

The Chief Guest Shri S. C. Mishra delivered his lecture on the practical aspects of the broadband. He explained about wireless component and fixed line components, data transfer over voice oriented network, how data can be shared and optimized, fixed mobile convergence, independent current network migrating to service provider. He also discussed the problem of large no of different and incompatible devices.

Shri R. N. Rajpoot, Honorary Secretary, IET (UK) - Delhi Local Network gave the Vote of Thanks. Overall, the lecture was beneficial and informative.
