OPEN SOURCE TECHNOLOGIES

Computer Science & Engineering Department of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon in association with NITTTR, Chandigarh MHRD, Govt. of India conducted a five day Short Term Course (STC) on Open Source Technologies through ICT from 21st to 25th July 2014.

ICT based programs provides digital based learning material for professionals. DCE, Gurgaon has been constantly taking advantage of the various ICT programs conducted by NITTTR Chandigarh and providing the opportunity to the faculty members for dissemination of knowledge.

The main focus of the program was on Open Source Technologies like Big Data, Hadoop, SAN/NAS etc. There are 45 participants from DCE Gurgaon and more than 150 participants from various other colleges.

On Day 1, the 1st session was taken by Mr. Amit Doegar (Course Coordinator) and introduced about the course contents. The event was graced by auspicious presence of Prof. (Dr.) M. N. Hussain, Hon’ble Principal, DCE Gurgaon. The 2nd session of the day was again taken by Mr. Amit Doegar and he discussed about Benefits and Future Scope of Free/Open Source Software (FOSS). The 3rdsession of the day was continued with the discussion on Open Source Operating Systems and Deployment. Each session succeeded with doubt clarification and feedback from participating organizations.

On Day 2, the 1st session started with discussion on “Implementation of Wiki, Blog and RSS” by Mr. Amit Doegar. The 2nd & 3rd session of the day was taken by Dr. Gaurav Kumar, Managing Director, Magma Research and Consultancy Pvt. Ltd., Ambala. He shared his views on “Open Source Research Applications and Tools” and “Open CV for Digital Image and Video Processing”.

On Day 3, the 1st session was taken by Dr. Gaurav Kumar, Managing Director, Magma Research and Consultancy Pvt. Ltd., Ambala on “Enterprise Content management using Alfresco”. The 2nd session of the day was on “Big Data, Hadoop and Mao Reduce Deployment” by Dr. Gaurav Kumar.

On Day 4 all the three sessions was taken by Mr. Vipin Gupta, CEO, U-Net Solutions. In first two sessions he discussed on SAN/NAS Implementation using Open Source. The last session was on “Open Source Cloud Implementation” followed by questionnaire round under the presence of Prof. (Dr.) M. P. Poonia, Director, NITTTR Chandigarh.

The last day of the event started with discussion on “Open Source Security Tools” by Mr. Vipin Gupta for the first 2 sessions. Finally, the event ended with Course feedback and Valedictory session. The 5 Day short term course proved informative particularly related to ICT, MOOCs, Hadoop etc.
