Global Game Changer

Prof. B.M.K. Prasad, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended a Public Lecture on Inclusive Innovation Through Affordable Excellence: The Global Game Changer by Prof. R.A. Mashelkar, National Research Professor and President, Global Research Alliance, National chemical Laboratory, Pune and former DG and secretary, DSIR, New Delhi on 24 December 2013 at National Physical Laboratory (NPL), New Delhi. The program aimed at promoting Inclusive Innovation, that is, Getting More Performance from Less Resources for More People, was coordinated byProf. Krishan Lal, President, Indian National Science Academy (INSA) and Prof. R.C. Budhani, Director, CSIR-NPL, New Delhi.

Prof. Mashelkar stated in his opening remarks that 2010-2020 has been declared as Decade of Innovation but countries of European Union have been declared as Innovation Union. Money has become powerful than knowledge.Industrial Enterprises aim at Getting More(Performance) From Less (Cost) For More (Profit, value to the shareholder). He strongly recommended that this Frugal Innovation must be replaced by Inclusive Innovation and Gandhian Engineering: More from Less for More.

He was extremely optimistic in his assessment that affordable excellence is not aboutstripping products and services to make them cheap rather it is about Giving high quality at affordable prices. True inclusion will demand not just ‘Low Cost’ but “Ultra Low Cost” that is, Not Minor
