Mr. Vinod Kumar (Assistant Professor, IT Department), Mr. Amar Saraswat (Assistant Professor, CSE Department) and Ms. Ashu Soni (Associate Professor, ECE Department) from Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended the Faculty Development Programme on Digital Image Processing, Animation and Computer Vision. The main objective of this faculty development programme was to enhance the quality of education by improving the faculty knowledge and prepares industry ready engineers.

Day 1: Monday, 22 Sep. 14

Prof. M.S. Murali, Director, DGI welcomed chief guest Dr. S. K. Singh, Professor and Dean, Delhi Technological University and Prof. Umesh Ghanekar, Head of Electronics & Communication department, NIT Kurukshetra by presenting bouquets as a token of respect.

The event was inaugurated by chief guest Dr. S. K. Singh, Prof. M.S. Murali and Prof. Umesh Ghanekar with a lamp lighting ceremony. Dr. (Prof.) M.S. Murali delivered the welcome address and motivated the participants to enhance their learning environment towards real research. This will lead to better society and quality of life.

Keynote address was delivered by chief guest Dr. S. K. Singh. He emphasized on the role faculty play in shaping the future of the young technocrats, entrepreneurs and leaders. He stated that the increasing gap between academia and industry can be fulfilled only if the faculty acts as a bridge between the two.

After the inaugural session Prof. Umesh Ghanekar started with the technical session on Fundamentals of digital image processing. He further discussed various case studies on digital image processing. He also gave participants an exposure to Matlab.

Lab - session was about practicing the concepts of digital image processing on matlab. The assignments given to the participants helped them to have hands on experience and practical insight into Image Processing.

Day 2: Tuesday, 23 Sep. 14

On the second day Dr. Ranjeet Singh, CEO, SIFS Lab took session on Image Forensics. He focussed on various domains of image Forensics, such as analysis of evidences, Finger Print Analysis and Handwriting recognition. Dr. Singh also focussed on Exemplar Fingerprint, which is known to have originated from as specific source camera and Latent Fingerprint, which is lifted from an evidential Image. Dr. Singh explained about various technical challenges for automatic indexing and retrieval of scanned documents. He also discussed about Cursive Recognition Approaches such as Document Pre-processing, which consists of noise removal, thinning, word box extraction, size normalization, Featured Extraction and Holistic matching. In the end he also talked about Cyber forensics, cybercrimes, and various preventive measures for it.

The second session was taken by Mr. Vivek Kumar Singh, Technical expert, SIFS Lab on Forensic Science, Protection of Crime Scene, Securing and Isolating the crime scenes, different types of evidences found on a crime scene, such as biological evidences, blood, Glass and paints, Firearms, bullets, cartridge case, documents, footprints, vehicle marks etc. Mr. Vivek Singh also discussed the importance of Crime Scene Photography and extraction of the information from those photographs.

Day 3: Wednesday, 24 Sep. 14

A Visit to SIFS Lab: On third day, Dr. Ranjeet Singh discussed AFIS Technologies. He focussed on Finger Print Databank, Plain Arche and Tented Arche, Radial Loop and Ulnar Loop, Plain Whorl and Composite Whorl. The Composite whorl was again divided into Central Packet Loop, Double Whorl Loop and Accidental Whorl Loop. Mr. Singh talked about various levels of finger prints. Level 2 studies of fingerprints included line unit, line fragment, ending, bifurcation, eye, hook and Level 3 are Pores, line shape, incipient ridges, creases, warts and scars.

Day 4: Thursday, 25 Sep. 14

On Fourth Day, Dr. Vinne Jauhari, Director Education Advocacy, from Microsoft discussed about Innovation in Research and Teaching. She discussed about Global power supply in the energy scenario, sustainability such as design of buildings, New innovation techniques and opportunities in various fields such as cloud, devices, big data and natural interfaces. She discussed the evolution and rise of the business by giving the example of Zomoto. After that, she gave lot of information on Microsoft School Program, Innovative Teacher Program, Inter disciplinary approaches such as different business areas including finance, innovation, management, marketing, engineering and psychology.

The second session was taken by Dr. S. Indu, Associate Professor from Delhi Technical University. Dr. Indu talked about sampling and quantization, sharpening of the image, bartlane cable picture transmission service along with various application and research topics in the field of image processing such as Face Tracking, Hand Gesture Recognition, medical Applications, Pin Hole Cameras, Imaging geometry, which consists of optical axis and focal Length. She also discussed about Spatial and Spatial temporal Interests, and various applications such as adaptive traffic signalling, digitalization of Inscription.

The third session was taken by Dr. Jeebananda Panda, Associate Professor, ECE Department, Delhi Technical University on Digital Watermarking Techniques. He told that watermarking is a technique which allows an individual to add hidden copyright notices or other verification messages to Digital Media. Dr. Panda discussed about steganography and cryptography in digital watermarking system, Attributes of watermarks such as Imperceptibility, Robustness, Capacity, Effectiveness and Security. He also focussed on classification of watermarking according to detection process, use of keys, watermark type, and according to document which includes Image watermarking, Text watermarking, audio watermarking and Video watermarking.

Day 5: Friday, 26 Sep. 14

On fifth day of FDP, Mr. Rajendra Kumar, HOD CSE, Vidya College of Engineering, Meerut discussed about various challenges in latent Fingerprint Matching. Mr. Kumar talked about Whorl, Loop, Tented Arches, online and offline matching system such as digitized images through digital camera to be matched through software and digitized images to be matched with LCD Projectors. He also talked about how to expose latent finger prints, chemicals for revealing the latent fingerprints, identification approaches, accuracy achieved by online and offline systems, False Accept Rate (FAR) and False Reject Rate (FRR). He also discussed about the current research topics. In the end, feedback from the participating faculty members was taken, followed by the valedictory session.

The workshop was interactive and focused not only to enhance the knowledge in the field of Image processing but also in various research areas related to it.
