Advance Training Programme on Smart Grid Technology Organised by India Smart Grid Forum

on

19th Dec 2014

An Advance Training Programme on “Smart Grid Technology” was organized by India Smart Grid Forum on 19th December, 2014 at Jaypee Siddartha Hotel, New Delhi. Two Faculty Prof. (Mrs.) A N Mahajan, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering and Mr. K.K.Singh Department of Electronics & Computer Science from Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended the event. More than 70 delegates from different fields participated in this coveted event. The objective of this program was to disseminate the knowledge of “Grid network stabilization solution of Renewable Energy Integration” through case studies, discussion and field visits. The specific objectives:

1. Establish a understanding on the conceptual framework of Grid Network Stabilization Solution.

2. Share contextual experiences from different parts of the world helpful for identifying appropriate strategies for the Grid Network Stabilization & Renewable Energy Integration.

3. Analyze different tools and techniques practiced by different countries.

The Workshop started with introductory speech by Ms. Amrita, Representative of India, Smart Grid Forum (ISGF). She discussed Smart Grid Road Map, Virtual Grid, load shedding, micro grid and storage option of electricity. She focused on the target to set up Micro-Grids in 1000 villages/industrial parks/commercial hubs by 2017 and 10,000 villages/industrial parks/commercial hubs by 2022. She also discussed the optimally balanced use of different energy sources for electricity generation through efficient scheduling and dispatches of distributed energy resources with the goal of long term energy sustainability.

Mr. Vikram Gangotra, Managing Director, Siemens discussed the role of Renewable & Distributed Generation, Electricity Markets, Power System Challenges across the globe. He gave the example of Brazilian distribution system operation how it takes care of Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) Losses. He said that the AT&C losses of Brazilian Power System are 5.8% whereas Indian AT&C losses are 26%. He urged the requirement of reducing the load demand during peak hours, smart metering, storage system for electricity, real time operation & control on power system. He also said that smart buildings, smart grid control room, Accelerated Power Development & Reform Program (APDRP) and Revised Accelerated Power Development & Reform Program (R-APDRP) schemes should be promoted in India.

Mr. Shiv Kaushik, Cyan Technology threw light on certain aspects of smart metering and smart lightening. He discussed the value of innovative technologies in metering like complete solution for smart metering, wireless mesh and point to point meter readings in license free bands. He focused on lightening schemes like switching by the use of wireless system control, automated meter readings, and use of information system for reduction of human error.

Mr. Anand Singh, Ph.D Scholar, Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, Gujarat defined smart grid in a different way. According to him the smart grid is the combination of technology, wireless or with wire, a two way flow of information between its stakeholders for reliable, affordable & economical energy consumption. He also discussed electricity forecasting, demand side management, use of technical & software laboratories for Graphical User Interface, and open access in demand side management.

The program came to an end with the Vote of Thanks by Ms. Amrita and Mr. Anand Singh. The Workshop was very informative & knowledgeable for the participants. The workshop gave the exposure to clear the participant’s basic concepts of smart grid technology.
