SciPy 2013: THREE DAYS INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE AT IIT BOMBAY

 

Mrs. Chitra Kaul, Associate Professor and Resource Centre Coordinator of Spoken Tutorial Project from Computer Science & Engineering Department of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended a Three day International Conference “Scipy 2013” organized by FOSSEE (Free and Open Source Software For Education) Project of IIT Bombay from 13thto 15th December 2013 sponsored by Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India, JPMorgan and Enthought Inc.The objective of this conference was to spread the use of Python for Scientific Computing in various fields and among different communities.

The experts  included Mr. Ondrej Certik, CNLS Postdoctoral Research Associate. Los Alamos National Laboratory, from University of Nevada Reno in Reno, Nevada, United States. Mr. Certik has 180 repositories written in Python, C, and Shell. He delivered sessions on SciPy, NumPy and encouraged developers for hands on practice on his repositories.

Mr. Ajith Kumar B.P., RF & Electronics Laboratory, IUAC (Intra University Accelerator Centre), India also joined the conference to enlighten the participants. He spoke at length about expEyes,from the PHOENIX project of Inter-University Accelerator Centre, New Delhi. It is a hardware and software framework for developing science experiments, demonstrations and projects without getting in to the details of electronics or computer programming.

Jaidev Deshpande, Software Developer, EnthoughtInc and V. Bala Subrahmanyam from Crypsis Technologies, Hyderabad delivered sessions on Pandas, Python Data Analysis Library and machine learning using SciKit learn respectively. Several informative tutorials covered most part of the third day.
