ROBOTICS WORKSHOP “MOBI-ROBOTICS”

ON 16 -17 Oct 14

Robotics Club under the aegis of Deptt. of Electronics & Communication Engineering of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon organized a two- day zonal workshop on “Mobi-Robotics” in association with Robosapiens Technologies Pvt. Ltd. and IIT Delhi on 16 and 17 Oct 14.

This workshop was for beginners especially for first and second year students who are taking their first step towards robotics. It basically dealt with designing various kinds of electronic sensors and circuits and their use in making robots using a microcontroller. After the workshop, students would be able to come up with a Wired Robot, Wireless Robot, Line tracking robot, Sound operated robot, Computer Controlled Robots and many more. The workshop also aimed to promote research in robotics and provide students hands on experience on robotics projects.

The workshop was divided into four sessions consisting of theory and hands on practical sessions:

In the first session students were acquainted with the basics of electronics and various components used, and were made familiar with the basics of microcontroller especially the ATMEL series microcontroller, ATMega8, which is one of the most powerful and widely used 8 bit micro controllers. The demo of the software “AVR Studio” was given so as to make the students familiar with the tool.

Students were made to connect the different parts of a robotic car in the second session. The students made the connection on the board and tried few examples on the kit like glowing of LED, sound of buzzer, using the timing circuit features to alternately turn on and turn off the buzzer with small delay.

The third session saw students being provided hands on training for development of a Line following robot where the trainer gave other technical details to the students so that they could modify the existing code and make Edge avoiding Robot, Light searching robot, etc. The students also tried their hands on DTMF module which is GSM based control of the robot.

In the concluding session, a competition was organized amongst all 29 participating students. The students were divided into groups of 3-4 students each. Top 3 groups were declared winners of the zonal round and awarded merit certificates. Two lab instructors also attended the workshop so as to help the students during their projects as well as man the e-Yantra Robotics Lab set up in the college. Overall, the workshop provided a good opportunity to the participants to sharpen their skills in the core area of robotics. The zonal winner group will get an opportunity to participate in the final Robotics Project Competition to be held at IIT Delhi in Mar 15. The participants enjoyed the learning experience during the workshop.
