Short Term Course on “R Programming”

 

A five day short term course (STC) on “R Programming” was conducted by Computer science Department, NITTTR Chandigarh from 27th March - 31st March, 2017. Ms. Pooja Dang, Assistant Professor from Information Technology Department of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon participated in the STC. The main objective of the short term course was to learn the concepts of “R Programming” and apply that in real life applications. A team of experts, trainers and a wide section of faculty helped the participants to enhance their skills with hands on training.

 

The Program was delivered by experts Dr. Gaurav Kumar, Managing Director, Magma Research and Consultancy Pvt. Ltd, Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Dr. C. Rama Krishna and Mrs. Shano Solanki from NITTTR Chandigarh.

 

Day 1: 27th March 2017

Content of the day: Introduction to R and practice session on installation
Dr. Rakesh Kumar explained the need of R and various applications in real life. In this session, the features of R and how to implement it was discussed.

 

Day 2: 28th March 2017

Content of the day:  Introduction to Data structures in R
Mrs. Sangeeta Gupta conducted this session on introduction to data structures: vectors and Matrices .then Basic commands of R using R console and R Studio was explained followed by a practical session.

 

Implementation was discussed with data mining overview at last.

 

Day 3: 29th March 2017

Content of the day: Binomial Poisson and Normal Distribution
Dr. Gaurav Kumar explained the topic with practical examples with hands on practice in R Console. Conduction of Chi-square test was also discussed. Mrs. Shano Solanki - Course Coordinator discussed the Descriptive Statistics with a practical session. Participants learnt about the mean, median and variance of data using R Studio.

 

Day 4: 30th March 2017

Content of the day: Social Media Mining and Predictive Analysis using R
Data mining techniques and its analysis was discussed with live examples of Twitter and Facebook. How to mine the data of twitter using R techniques was explained practically. This session was very useful as it gave the real implementation of R. Ms. Vartika helped in performing practicals.

 

Day 5: 31st March 2017

Content of the day: Data Mining and Machine Learning using RATTLE tool
Mrs. Shano Solanki explained Data Mining and machine learning using RATTLE tool. RATTLE is basically a GUI based tool for implementing data sets. Practical session and query handling on various topics were introduced.

 

The course concluded with a panel session where (Prof.) Dr. Rama Krishna, NITTTR Chandigarh and Mrs. Shano Solanki, shared their views and gave the vote of thanks.
