Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon in association with IIT Delhi has conducted one - day workshop on “Virtual Labs” on 30th March 2017. Virtual Labs is an initiative of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt of India under the National mission on Education through ICT. The objective of virtual lab is to provide remote-access to Labs in various disciplines of Science and Engineering.

Mr. Ashish Ranjan & Mr. Ashish Mudgil, Virtual Lab Expert IIT Delhi were the resource persons for the workshop. The workshop was coordinated by Mr. Dharmendra Pal, Virtual lab Coordinator and Fifty students of IT & CSIT Department attended the workshop.

Mr. Ashish Ranjan, Virtual Lab Expert IIT Delhi, started the session with the brief introduction of Virtual Labs. He briefed that the basic purpose of Virtual lab is to enhance the knowledge of students by providing the remote - access to Labs in various disciplines of Science and Engineering. These labs also share the costly equipment and resources, which are otherwise available to limited number of users due to constraints of cost and geographical distance.

He also explained   the Virtual Lab portal, its important features and accesses of various labs developed by different participating institutes. These Virtual Labs cater to students at the undergraduate level, post graduate level as well as to research scholars.

Mr. Ashish Mudgil, Virtual Lab Expert IIT Delhi, demonstrated a few experiments of Data Structure and Problem solving Lab labs to the students. The objective of the demonstration was to make students well conversant with the principles and functions of Virtual Labs. The session was very interactive and students learned about the basic concepts of the labs.  

Hands on Practice in Labs

After tea break, students were allowed to do hands-on practice on the Virtual Lab Portal. The students were divided into 2 computer labs, where they performed various experiments in Computer Programming Lab, Data Structure and Problem solving Lab.

The workshop was quite useful for the students. The workshop gave the exposure to perform the experiments and clear their basic concepts of Virtual labs utilizing the Virtual Lab portal.
