GURU DRON MATHEMATICS OLYMPIAD - 2016

 

Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon always strives to create an ambience of providing an outlet to the innovation and creativity in the minds of students. Keeping this mission in mind, the college organised Guru Dron Mathematics Olympiad - 2016 (GDMO - 2016) on 23rd April 2016 in the college premises.

 

The main objective of Guru Dron Mathematics Olympiad - 2016 was to provide a platform where the students availed an opportunity to challenge themselves towards perfection of this talent.

 

The specific areas / field of mathematics covered for the Olympiad competition were arithmetic of integers, geometry, quadratic equations and expressions, trigonometry, coordinate geometry, system of linear equations, permutations and combination, factorization of polynomial, inequalities, probability theory and number theory, finite series, complex numbers elementary, calculus and statistics.

 

Inaugurating the Guru Dron Maths Olympiad - 2016, Hon’ble Principal Prof. (Dr.) Karanjit Singh expressed that the purpose of such competitions are to stimulate enthusiasm and to foster Mathematical creativity and ingenuity in the young scholars of Mathematics.

 

Addressing the participants, the Convener of the Olympiad Prof. (Dr.) Sri Krishan Yadav stated that the Olympiad is a common platform where the participants have to compete with themselves in the areas on Mathematics. Talking about the importance of Mathematics in depth, he emphasized that mathematics is rightly treated as the mother of all sciences. Further, he shared Mathematics has a most important bearing on the intellect as such. Study of Mathematics promotes habits of accuracy and exactitude, and prevents a man from being careless and slipshod. It may be broadly described as the science of space, time and number.

 

Around 150 students from the schools of Delhi - NCR were registered for the competition. The schools were Meenakshi International School, Gurgaon, Jeevan Jyoti School Gurgaon, J.M. International School, Suraj School, R.P.S. School, Siddheshwar Public School, Yaduvanshi Shiksha Niketan, S.B.M. School, etc. The students participated in the Maths Olympiad - 2016 with full enthusiasm, wisdom, judgment and maturity. Overall, there was a tough competition during all three rounds of the Olympiad.

 

The result of the Olympiad was declared by the convener Prof. (Dr.) Sri Krishan Yadav. He announced that Mr. Mayank, bagged the first position; Mr. Shubham got second position and the third position was bagged by Mr. Vishal.

 

In the presence of the Convener, the Registrar, the academic Administrator and all HODs, Hon’ble Principal Prof. (Dr.) Karanjit Singh gave away prizes to every position holder of the Olympiad. In addition to medals and certificates, the Principal also gave away cheques of Rs.11000/=, Rs 5100/= and Rs. 3100/= to the First, Second and third position holders. Every participant was given a participation certificate.

 

The Olympiad ended with the concluding remarks and a vote of thanks delivered by the Convenor, Prof. (Dr.) Sri Krishan Yadav wherein he expressed his gratitude to the Principal, Registrar, all participants, faculty members and all others who contributed in organising this Olympiad in systematic and planned manner.
