Report on Paper Presentation in International Conference held in JNU

New Delhi on 5th and 6th June 13

Prof. (Mrs.) Meeta Verma from Civil Engineering department represented Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon in the International Conference on “Sustainable Innovative Techniques in Civil & Environmental Engineering” (SITCEE-2013) held at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, on 5th and 06th June, 2013, organized by Krishi-Sanskriti. Prof. (Dr.) D. P. Kothari, Ph.D., FNAE, FNASc, Fellow-IEEE, LMISTE, Director General, JB Group of Institution, Hyderabad was the chief guest of the mentioned event and Dr. Govind Chandra Mishra was the Organizing Secretary, Krishi-Sanskriti.

The aim of the SITCEE-2013 conference is to provide a forum for laying the foundations of a new principled approach to Civil and Environmental Engineering. This conference emphasized on harnessing eco-friendly technologies and proper utilization of these technologies in order to achieve universal goal of sustainable development.

Prof. (Mrs.) Meeta Verma presented two papers in the conference entitled “Mechanistic design of haul road pavements for open cast mines” and “Study of layered elastic systems in mechanistic design of flexible pavements”. The main aim of the papers is to improve the structural and functional design of a flexible pavement by using mechanistic design approach. The enormous increase in traffic intensity on pavements necessitates the evolution of new design techniques which are more rational to justify the behavior and magnitude of stresses developed due to application of loads on a pavement. The characteristics of pavement material are also to be studied in determination of the pavement thickness.
